The Salvation Army was started by William and Catherine Booth in 1865 and is an international movement (found in more than 127 countries)—it is a Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible and its ministry is motivated by the love of God.

The Salvation Army focus on service, on community and on living out its beliefs in practical ways. Its mission is to tell everyone about Jesus and help people when and where help is needed—to feed, to clothe, to comfort and to care for all people.

The Salvation Army has been in Australia for more than 140 years. You can find The Salvation Army in city streets, on rural farms and in suburban centres. Its people are on the ground day and night, bringing hope to those who need it most: people who are homeless or unemployed, who are sick or having tough times, are affected by disasters or financial troubles or feeling sad, scared or lonely.

Together The Salvation Army is a group of people who love and follow Jesus and want to see people do the very best they can do and be the very best they can be.
